Dr. Sorensen is board certified by the American Board of Medical Acupuncture and is a member of the American Academy of Medical Acupuncture. As a physician acupuncturist Dr. Sorensen can provide you with the best that western and eastern medicine have to offer.

Acupuncture is an ancient system of medicine which originated in Asia and is several thousand years older than western medicine. Acupuncture is best know in the western world as a treatment for pain, but it is also helpful for many non-painful disorders, either alone or as an adjunct to western medicine. Acupuncture can also be helpful for people in distress when western medicine cannot identify a cause.

Prior to an acupuncture treatment the doctor will listen to your concerns about the problem which is bothering you and ask questions to get a sense of your overall personality and makeup. This information is used to develop a treatment plan tailored to you as a person with a problem rather than just treating the problem in isolation.

During the treatment you sit or lie on a comfortable, padded table in a quite room. Needles as fine as a hair are inserted into various points on the body. You may be aware of the needles but the sensation should not be painful. Some acute problems can be treated in 1 or 2 sessions. More severe or chronic problems can take more.
